Otis' middle name, Howard, is interesting. He's certainly named after his mother, Sabina Howard. But his paternal aunt, Mary Jane German, married (John?) Willson Howard in Prattsville, NY sometime prior to 1855. Otis' first cousin, Mary Jane Howard, appears to have moved to Nebraska with her grandmother in 1874 to live with her uncle Samuel German.
ReplyDeleteIt could be coincidental, but it's possible that Sabina Howard and Willson Howard were related. In any case, Otis had Howard as a family name through both his mother and an uncle.
