Homer's obituary:

Died, December 15th, 1897--Homer German, aged 14 years, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. German.  Homer contracted Diphtheria and fell on the ice and fractured his skull on the same day--all that the best of medical aid could do would not stay the Death Angel.  He was an uncommon bright boy, beloved by all.  He was a member of the Walnut Creek Sunday school.  A short time before death he called the whole family about his bed and requested of each one to meet him in Heaven then he led the family with the Lord's Prayer and the Angels carried his soul over the beautiful River of Life.  He leaves his father, mother, two sisters and seven brothers to mourn his death.  His school mates will ever remember his dying message to them.  Mr. German and family have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community.

Homer's brother Ed German named his oldest son Harold Dwight German, in honor of Homer.
